YOUR ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival in Tirana
You will stay at Tirana
Welcome to Albania. Upon arrival at Tirana International Airport, you will pick up your 4×4 vehicle and receive the travel documents, route information, emergency contacts, and practical notes for the journey.
Depending on your arrival time, you can drive to your hotel in Tirana and enjoy your first evening in the capital. Tirana is lively, colorful, and easy to enjoy on foot. You may walk around Skanderbeg Square, visit the New Bazaar area, or have dinner in the Blloku district.
This first day is kept simple so you can settle in, prepare for the route, and become familiar with the vehicle before starting the adventure.

Skanderbeg Square: Start your journey in the vast central plaza of Tirana, surrounded by the National History Museum, Et’hem Bey Mosque, and the city’s modern skyline.
New Bazaar: Walk through one of Tirana’s most atmospheric neighborhoods, with restaurants, local produce, coffee bars, and evening energy.
Blloku District: Enjoy dinner or your first Albanian espresso in the city’s most fashionable district, filled with restaurants, terraces, and boutique bars.
Day 2: From Tirana to Bovilla Lake, Krujë and Shkodër (approx. 5-7 hours depending on route and stops)
You will stay at Shkodër
After breakfast, begin the adventure with a scenic 4×4 route toward Bovilla Lake, one of the most beautiful natural areas close to Tirana.
The road gradually leaves the city behind and enters a landscape of hills, villages, gravel sections, mountain views, and the turquoise waters of Bovilla Lake. Depending on the selected route and road conditions, you may enjoy light off-road sections around Bovilla and the surrounding rural area.
After Bovilla, continue toward Krujë through a more adventurous inland route where possible. Krujë is one of Albania’s most historic towns, known for its castle, old bazaar, mountain views, and connection with Albania’s national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg.
Later, continue toward Shkodër, one of the oldest and most important cultural cities in Albania. In the evening, enjoy a walk along the pedestrian street or relax in one of the city’s cafés and restaurants.
Unmissable Stops Along Your Journey
Bovilla Lake: Drive toward the dramatic turquoise reservoir surrounded by rocky ridges, rural roads, and mountain scenery just outside Tirana.
Gamti Viewpoint Area: Depending on time and conditions, stop near the viewpoint area for one of the most recognizable panoramas close to the capital.
Krujë Castle & Old Bazaar: Walk through the medieval hilltop castle area and the traditional wooden bazaar, famous for souvenirs, carpets, copper work, and mountain views.
Shkodër Pedestrian Street: End the day with a relaxed evening walk through one of Albania’s most charming city centers.
Day 3: From Shkodër to Theth via Okol Area (approx. 3-5 hours depending on route and conditions)
You will stay at Theth
After breakfast, leave Shkodër and drive toward the Albanian Alps. The route climbs from the lowlands into the mountain region, passing villages, forest areas, viewpoints, and dramatic alpine scenery.
The drive toward Theth is one of the most beautiful mountain drives in Albania. Depending on local road conditions, the route may enter Theth through the Okol side or nearby mountain access area, giving the day a stronger adventure character before reaching the village.
Upon arrival in Theth, check in at your guesthouse and enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere. In the afternoon, you may take a relaxed walk through the village and visit Theth Church and the Lock-in Tower.
The evening is free to enjoy traditional mountain food and rest after the drive.

Theth Village: Discover one of the most iconic alpine villages in Albania, surrounded by high limestone peaks and traditional stone houses.
The Church of Theth: Capture the classic postcard view of the valley, with the small stone church framed by the dramatic mountains behind it.
The Lock-in Tower: Visit the historic defensive tower connected with the Kanun and the traditional highland culture of northern Albania.
Okol Area & Mountain Viewpoints: Enjoy alpine landscapes, village roads, and scenic stops before settling into the mountain guesthouse.
Day 4: From Theth to Shkodër via Kir Valley (approx. 5-7 hours depending on road conditions and weather)
You will stay at Shkodër
After breakfast, enjoy a short morning in Theth before starting one of the most adventurous driving days of the program.
Depending on time, weather, and road conditions, you may visit Grunas Waterfall or take a short walk in the village before departure. If the group prefers a longer nature visit, the Blue Eye of Theth can be added, but only if the day starts early and conditions are suitable.
The main adventure of the day is the return from Theth toward Shkodër through the Kir Valley route. This is a remote and demanding 4×4 section, passing through mountain landscapes, river valleys, rural areas, and less-traveled tracks.
This route is designed for travelers who want a real off-road experience. It should not be rushed. The day is about the drive itself: mountain views, remote villages, difficult sections, photo stops, and the feeling of crossing from the Alps back toward Shkodër through a wild route.
Upon arrival in Shkodër, check in at the hotel and enjoy a relaxed evening after the off-road day.
The Absolute “Must-See” Highlights
Grunas Waterfall: If time allows, start the day with a short nature visit to one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Theth.
The Blue Eye of Theth: A longer optional visit that can be added only with an early start and suitable road conditions.
Kir Valley Landscapes: Cross remote mountain terrain, gravel sections, valleys, rural stops, and demanding 4×4 roads.
Remote Mountain Villages: Enjoy photo stops, wild landscapes, and the feeling of crossing from the Alps back toward Shkodër through a less-traveled route.
Day 5: From Shkodër to Koman, Fierza and Valbona (approx. 4-5 hours driving, excluding ferry time)
You will stay at Valbona
After an early breakfast, depart from Shkodër toward Koman. This day combines mountain driving with one of the most beautiful ferry journeys in Albania: the crossing from Koman to Fierza.
The ferry route passes between steep mountains, narrow lake sections, dramatic cliffs, and remote landscapes. The vehicle must be booked on the ferry in advance, timings must be checked before final confirmation, and the day should start early to avoid missing the departure.
After arriving in Fierza, continue the drive toward Valbona Valley. The landscape changes again, with alpine scenery, river views, and mountain villages leading into one of the most famous valleys of northern Albania.
Upon arrival in Valbona, check in at your guesthouse and enjoy a quiet evening surrounded by the mountains.

Koman Lake Ferry: Travel through one of Albania’s most dramatic lake corridors, surrounded by steep mountain walls and narrow water passages.
Fierza Arrival: Continue from the ferry into the northern highlands, where the route begins to open toward the Valbona region.
Valbona Valley: Enter one of Albania’s most famous alpine valleys, known for mountain scenery, river views, and peaceful guesthouse stays.
Guesthouse Dinner: End the day with traditional northern food in a quiet mountain setting.
Day 6: From Valbona to Kukës Off-Road Route (approx. 4-7 hours depending on selected route and conditions)
You will stay at Kukës
After breakfast, enjoy a calm morning in Valbona Valley. You may take a short walk, enjoy the valley views, visit nearby viewpoints, or simply relax before starting the drive toward Kukës.
The route from Valbona toward Kukës is planned as an adventurous 4×4 day. Depending on weather, road conditions, and local advice, the route may include highland roads, remote villages, gravel sections, and scenic off-road tracks through the Tropojë and Kukës region.
This day should remain flexible. The exact off-road line may change according to seasonal conditions, landslides, repairs, and accessibility. The goal is to create a safe but adventurous mountain route from Valbona toward Kukës.
Kukës is an important northern city surrounded by mountain and lake landscapes. After arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy a relaxed evening.

Valbona Morning Walk: Begin the day slowly with valley views, fresh mountain air, and a relaxed start before the drive.
Tropojë Highland Landscapes: Travel through one of the most scenic northern highland regions of Albania.
Remote Village Roads: Follow flexible mountain and gravel sections depending on season, weather, and local accessibility.
Viewpoints Toward Kukës: Enjoy mountain and lake landscapes before arriving in the city.
Day 7: From Kukës to Dibër and Tirana (approx. 6-8 hours depending on route, stops and conditions)
You will stay at Tirana
After breakfast, begin the final adventure drive back toward Tirana through the eastern side of Albania.
Instead of returning by the simplest highway route, this program follows the Dibër direction, creating a scenic and adventurous return through mountains, valleys, and rural landscapes.
Depending on conditions, the route may pass through areas connected with Dibër, Peshkopi, Bulqizë, and the mountain roads leading back toward Tirana. Selected off-road or gravel sections can be included according to the driver’s level, vehicle type, weather, and local road information.
This is a long and scenic day. It gives the journey a proper loop instead of repeating the same road back. The day combines highland driving, local villages, mountain passes, and a final return to Tirana.
Upon arrival in Tirana, check in at your hotel and enjoy a final evening in the capital.

Dibër Landscapes: Drive through the eastern mountain region, with rural roads, highland villages, and scenic viewpoints.
Peshkopi Area: Depending on routing and time, pass through one of the main centers of the Dibër region.
Bulqizë Mountain Road: Follow mountain roads and valley sections on the return toward central Albania.
Final Evening in Tirana: Celebrate the end of the loop with dinner, a walk in Blloku, or a relaxed evening in the capital.
Day 8: Departure from Tirana
After breakfast, drive to Tirana International Airport or return the vehicle in Tirana city, depending on your departure arrangements.
If your flight is later in the day, you may have time for a short walk, coffee, or last-minute shopping before departure.
This marks the end of your Northern Albania 4×4 Self-Drive Adventure.
