Wild South Albania — 6-Day Expedition

6 Days 5 Nights

Wild South Albania is a six-day private expedition connecting mountain roads, river valleys, stone-built towns and the Ionian coast. The journey is designed for travellers who want more than a standard sightseeing circuit: longer scenic routes, local encounters and the freedom to adjust the pace with an experienced Albania-based team.

The itinerary can be adapted to your dates, group size, preferred comfort level and seasonal road conditions. Travel is arranged with suitable transport, including 4×4 support where the route requires it.

A flexible six-day itinerary

Day 1 — Tirana, Berat and Mount Tomorr region

Leave Tirana for central Albania and explore Berat’s UNESCO-listed quarters, castle and views across the Osum valley. Depending on weather and the chosen travel style, continue toward the foothills and villages around Mount Tomorr. The first day introduces the contrast between Ottoman heritage and Albania’s rugged interior.

Day 2 — Osum landscapes and Përmet

Travel south through changing mountain scenery toward the Vjosa valley. Stops are selected around road conditions and group interests, with time for viewpoints, local food and short walks. Arrive in the Përmet area, known for river landscapes, hospitality and a slower rhythm of travel.

Day 3 — Vjosa valley and Zagoria

Follow one of southern Albania’s most memorable inland routes. The day can combine the Vjosa valley, thermal springs and the stone villages of Zagoria. Sections of the route may be adapted when rain, snow or road works affect mountain access.

Day 4 — Gjirokastër and the Blue Eye

Discover Gjirokastër’s steep stone streets, fortress and characteristic houses before continuing toward the clear spring waters of the Blue Eye. Your guide balances headline landmarks with quieter stops that reveal daily life and regional traditions.

Day 5 — Butrint and the Albanian Riviera

Explore the archaeological landscape of Butrint, then turn north along the Ionian coast. Hidden bays, hill villages and panoramic roads make this a scenic day rather than a simple transfer. Swimming stops are possible in warm weather when timing and conditions allow.

Day 6 — Riviera, Llogara and return

Continue through the Riviera and across the Llogara area before returning toward Tirana. The final route and arrival time are planned around your onward travel arrangements and the season.
